Registering your device creates a record that it belongs to you. Registration is an important tool to help prevent theft on campus and return lost or stolen devices to their registered owners.
Registration is required on campus, which helps support the infrastructure and programming available to our cyclists and provides an important traceability of bicycle ownership.
Registration is done through a partnership with Bike Index, which provides a Universal Bike Registry. This makes your bike registration useful at UC Merced and beyond.
You can get your bike fully registered, stickered, and have the Bike Program verify that all your details were recorded correctly.
How It Works
Navigate to Bike Index and follow the steps to begin registering your device.
Open your email from Bike Index, then record the model and serial number of your device and add these details to your Bike Index profile.
Need help finding your serial number? Find your serial number .
Drop by the TAPS office during open hours to pick up your registration sticker.
Appointments are available Monday–Friday, UNDECIDED TIMES.
Tips for Preventing Theft
- Display your Registration Sticker: They're hard to remove and can be a deterrent to thieves.
- Lock Up: Always lock up your device, even if you're leaving it for "just a minute." We recommend a U-shaped high-security lock with a cable or chain to secure quick-release components, such as wheels and seats. Locks and other anti-theft accessories can be purchased on campus at the UNDECIDED.
- Customize Your Device: Customize your device with stickers, lights, and other decorations to make it recognizable and harder to resell.

Reporting a Theft
- On-campus theft: Call UCM PD at (209) 228-2677 or submit a report online.
- Off-campus theft and within the City of Merced: Call Merced PD at UNDECIDED or submit a report online.
- Report your device stolen on Bike Index.
